Microsoft Office Groove

Microsoft Office Groove is now the Microsoft SharePoint Workspace, a desktop application made for document collaboration in teams with members who are regularly off-line or who do not share the same network security clearance; its files are with .grv extension. Groove's uses have integrated coordination between emergency relief agencies where different organizations don’t share a usual security infrastructure and where offline access is important, and amongst teams of knowledge workers, such as consultants who need to work securely on client sites. It is also utilized as a staging system for documents in improvement, where content can be developed then transferred to a portal when complete. SharePoint Workspace has been replaced in sample versions of Office 2013 by Skydrive Pro, thus, rendering SharePoint Workspace to withdraw. Groove was primarily developed by Lotus Notes creator Ray Ozzie, and developed by Groove Networks of Beverly, Massachusetts until Microsoft's acquisition of Groove Networks in March 2005.

Microsoft SharePoint Server

Microsoft SharePoint is a Web application platform developed by Microsoft, and it makes it easier for users to work together. SharePoint can be utilized to give intranet portals, document & file management, social networks, collaboration, websites, extranets, enterprise search, and business intelligence. It also has capabilities around system integration, process integration, and workflow automation. It comprises a flexible set of Web technologies which are helpful for several organizations, backed by a common technical infrastructure. Using SharePoint Server, users can set up Web sites to contribute to information with others, manage documents from start to finish, and publish reports to help everyone make better decisions. SharePoint has similar interface with Microsoft Office, and it is directly incorporated with the Office suite. The Web tools are created to be usable by non-technical users. Microsoft has two versions of SharePoint available for free, but it sells premium editions with additional functionality, and gives a cloud service edition as part of their Office 365 platform. The product is also purchased through a cloud model by many third-party vendors.
