ChiWriter

ChiWriter is a scientific text editor that has an MS DOS-based platform and was developed by Horstmann Software Design Corporation in 1986. It was among the first WYSIWYG editors which has the capability to write mathematical formulas. The basic function of this software is that users can add lines above and below text lines and write there at the same time, this is used to create subscripts and superscripts including complex formulas like fractions. It has the ability to use several fonts including Greek alphabet, Cyrillic alphabets, Mathematical symbols and other symbols. The ChiWriter software is suitable for scientific papers due to the formulas and spatial elements that are structured with the use of boxes which are horizontally and vertically aligned matrices, these boxes can be nested. Another major feature of the software is the use of tables. Tables can cross page boundaries even with fixed width columns and it can be provided with various kinds of borderline. As of 1996, ChiWriter is no longer marketed, sold or supported because it did not support Windows based platforms.
