This service is utilized by a computer that is connected to a domain to securely log on the domain. It maintains a protected channel between the computer and the domain controller for verifying users and services. It is also known as Netlogon and change log files, these CHG files were made by Microsoft Corporation as a login security database tracking files. Files with .chg extension has an active data utilized by the Microsoft Windows 7 OS, and should not be accessed or edited since login data related to its user accounts that was made by a user with administrator privileges are saved and are referenced by these files during user account login. Editing the content of these CHG files can cause troubles in login functionalities of the Microsoft Windows 7 OS, and may stop the user from logging into a user account even when the correct credentials are used. If this service is stopped, the computer may not validate users and services and the domain controller cannot register DNS records. If this service is disabled, any services that plainly depending on it will fail to start.
