The Backus Normal Form or Backus-Naur Form (BNF) is a notation technique use in context-free grammars for interpreting the syntax of languages in computing. This includes computer programming languages, document formats, communication protocol and instructions set. The development of BNF started when the programming language designer in IBM, John Backus, proposed metalinguistic formulas using the BNF notation that will help in describing the syntax of the IAL programming language. Backus introduced a report that a report that was presented in the UNESCO conference on the IAL programming language Today, it is the ALGOL 58 programming language. Peter Naur named this notation the Backus Normal Form and made a few modifications like minimizing the characters used in it. The Clinical and Biomedical Computing supports BNF which requires Microsoft Internet Information Server 5.0 (IIS) or later versions installed on the server. The servers must also use Microsoft Windows 2003 and the ASP.NET component form the operating system media must be installed. The BNF server will allow the publishing of BNF in an intranet environment.

a word of warning

Be careful not to rename the extension on .mcxe files, or any other files. This will not change the file type. Only special conversion software can change a file from one file type to another.
