what is a .od file?

The OD file extension is known as Mascopt Graph Request File which was developed by INRIA/UNSA. It is a file format used by Mascopt, a program that allows users to visualize and manipulate mathematical graph. It contains graph request files and used to specify data for studying and manipulating a stored graph. Files in OD format can be opened with INRIA/UNSA Mascopt in Microsoft Windows, Mac OS and Linux platforms. It was originally derived from the .od format that was developed by David Coudert. The .od format uses two files: .graph file, which describes the graph and the .od file, which describes the request. To find the exact location of OD files, go to mascoptDev/files/nsfnet.od. Mascopt uses XML to describe graphs and other network objects rather than simple text format. MGL and MGX which means Mascopt Graph Library and Mascopt Graph Extended are used for input and output formats. MGL file reflects the oriented-object structure of Mascopt.

INRIA/UNSA Mascopt is an application that provides a group of tools that can fix network optimization problems. Problems like grooming, routing, virtual network design and survivability. Mascopt software applies a network data model and libraries that will handle graphs and networks plus ready to use integration of existing linear problems or algorithms such as integral multi-commodity flow. It is open source software that intends to keep on using basic technologies in XML and Java Sun formats that provide portable facilities. Mascopt have already implemented several standard algorithms that work on input/output classes and graph. It also offers graphical tool that can display graphical results and are currently experimenting on Wdm networks and writing network packages. a word of warning

Be careful not to rename the extension on .od files, or any other files. This will not change the file type. Only special conversion software can change a file from one file type to another.

what is a file extension?

A file extension is the set of three or four characters at the end of a filename; in this case, .od. File extensions tell you what type of file it is, and tell Windows what programs can open it. Windows often associates a default program to each file extension, so that when you double-click the file, the program launches automatically. When that program is no longer on your PC, you can sometimes get an error when you try to open the associated file.
