LSL files contain information such as texts and images that users can burn to a CD or DVD with the use of the LightScribe disc burner. LSL files contain labels that users can use when designing disc labels using the LightScribe Template Labeler program. The LightScribe Template Labeler that users use to create and open LSL files is a very advanced tool that is used to burn label to CDs and DVDs using a special disc drive, label-making software and special media with ease. It is a more advanced tool than the Simple Labeler because its capabilities are enhanced. Through LSL files, it is easier for users to pick their desired labels to put it on their CD and DVD therefore; these files make the functions of LightScribe Template Labeler better and effective.

HP LightScribe Template Labeler

HP LightScribe Template Labeler

LightScribe is a direct-to-disc labeling tool that uses a special optical CD writer that uses laser to finely etch an inkless design onto the disc's front side, which is coated with a reactive dye that changes color as it absorbs infrared light. The out-of-the-box software HP LightScribe Template Labeler already came with several design templates for ready-to-print labels. The designs appear gray and colorless because the disc usually has a colored front where the laser-etched label appears. Before using the template labeler, the application needs LightScribe System Software (LSS) installed first so it runs smoothly. The Extended Label Contrast Utility has been incorporated into LSS for creating hyper-quality designs with high contrast settings. Incidentally, the HP LightScribe Template Labeler only runs on a Windows platform. More design templates and themes are freely available for downloads at the Design Center of the company's website.

a word of warning

Be careful not to rename the extension on .lsl files, or any other files. This will not change the file type. Only special conversion software can change a file from one file type to another.

what is a file extension?

A file extension is the set of three or four characters at the end of a filename; in this case, .lsl. File extensions tell you what type of file it is, and tell Windows what programs can open it. Windows often associates a default program to each file extension, so that when you double-click the file, the program launches automatically. When that program is no longer on your PC, you can sometimes get an error when you try to open the associated file.
