This means the content of a .3pe file is referenced by the TurboTax Deluxe software whenever a user accesses a feature integrated into this application with code that corresponds to the referencing of data stored in the associated .3pe file. In simple terms, the content of these 3PE files are retrieved by this software when a user wants to fill out a relevant tax form, which may be included in the tax report the user needs to generate using the TurboTax Deluxe 2008. These files with the .3pe extension consists of elements included in the associated tax form, such as text fields, buttons and check boxes. Instructions, comments and other text messages may also be displayed on these tax forms, so this text content is also stored in these 3PE files. Intuit provides versions of the TurboTax Deluxe 2008 for the most widely used OS platforms, specifically for Microsoft Windows-based systems and Mac environments. These 3PE files are saved by the TurboTax application in the installation directory wher other program files of this software is found, and, upon updating this application, these 3PE files along with other files with the .3me extension are automatically updated.

Launch a .3pe file, or any other file on your PC, by double-clicking it. If your file associations are set up correctly, the application that's meant to open your .3pe file will open it. It's possible you may need to download or purchase the correct application. It's also possible that you have the correct application on your PC, but .3pe files aren't yet associated with it. Be careful not to rename the extension on .3pe files, or any other files. This will not change the file type. Only special conversion software can change a file from one file type to another.

A file extension is the set of three or four characters at the end of a filename; in this case, .3pe. File extensions tell you what type of file it is, and tell Windows what programs can open it. Windows often associates a default program to each file extension, so that when you double-click the file, the program launches automatically.
