I've been trying to install QUICKEN 2011. The installation begins without problems, even uninstalling QUICKEN 2007, but it stops suddenly and I get the following: AN ERROR HAS OCCURRED WHILE INSTALLING QUICKEN2011. EXIT CODE 1317.

I contacted Quicken help; I ran System Mechanic and cleaned up all the files. I tried contacting MS Windows, without success. So I just paid you $30 to take care of this. I really must have the Quicken installed on this computer.

Can you please try two things: 1. Disable what ever security software you have running while you are installing Quicken. 2. Make sure that you are installing this application when you are logged in as the administrator of the computer. If you are already logged in as the administrator, try creating a second administrator account for your PC and use that account to install. Let me know how you go with this!

Hi Allene, In addition to Mark\'s suggestions, could you try installing Quicken 2011 using a different User Account on Windows? If you don\'t have one, you can go into the Control Panel, locate the User Accounts section and create a new Administrator account for your computer. The reason I\'m suggesting this is because the Exit Code 1317 error can occur if the installer has trouble using your current User Account or creating a directory on the same. A fresh install on a new user account will definitely help sort things out and prevent problems in the future. But before you try the above suggestion, I recommend giving this solution a go: http://quicken.intuit.com/support/help/installing/error--quicken-failed-to-install---exit-code--1601/GEN82714.html Good luck and keep us posted! I followed Mark\'s suggestions, and I finally got the program installed (from a CD, not the online download, both of which were available to me.) Thanks to both of you.

Hi Allene,

You can follow the below steps to install Quicken2011 easily:
Method 1:
  1. From the Windows Start menu, find the search dialog box located at the bottom of the Start menu. (In earlier versions of Windows, choose Run).
  2. Type: MSIEXEC /UNREGISTER into the search field (in earlier versions of Windows, enter it in the Open field, then click OK).
Note: If you receive a message "Unrecognized command" or similar, you may have entered the command incorrectly. Enter the command again. Note the space after "MSIEXEC."
  3. Repeat Step 1, and this time type MSIEXEC /REGSERVER in the search field or Open field and click OK.
  4. Restart your computer.
  5. Once your computer restarts, attempt to install Quicken again.
Method 2:
You need to Edit the permissions on the directory referenced in the error using one of the following methods:
  1. In Windows Explorer, find the parent folder of your Quicken installation. For example, Quicken defaults to C:\Program Files\Intuit as its install folder, so the parent folder would be C:\Program Files.
  2. Right-click the folder and select Properties.
  3. Click the Security tab and select the SYSTEM user located in the Group or user names section.
  4. Select the Allow checkbox for Full Control in the Permissions for SYSTEM section.
  5. Select the Everyone group located in the Group or user names section.
  6. Select the Allow checkbox for Full Control in the Permissions for Everyone section.
  7. Click the Advanced button to open the Advanced Security Settings window.
  8. Select the Replace permission entries on all child objects with entries shown here that apply to child objects. check box.
  9. Click Apply and click Yes to the Security prompt
  10. Click Apply and OK in the [folder name] Properties dialog box, where [folder name] is the name of the folder that you selected in step 1.
I hope this helps.

Regards,
Lokesh
