You’ve got a Blue Screen of Death, and you’ve noted that the error is called APC_INDEX_MISMATCH. You’ve come to the right place.

This bug has to do with a mismatch in the “APC State Index”. It’s complicated, but it’s usually the result of a poorly-written driver that’s executing an asychronous procedure call (APC) incorrectly or too many times. It’s not necessary to understand what that means (and it would take several pages to explain), but you do need to know how to fix this Blue Screen if it comes up.

New Hardware

Driver Issue

Sometimes the Blue Screen will identify the driver causing the problem. If not, you’ll have to try to update all the drivers you can to their latest versions, especially for the aforementioned new hardware. To do so:

1. Click Start (Windows Key + X in Windows 8)
2. Click Control Panel
3. Click Device Manager
4. Right-click on each device and click Update Driver
